After reading about this, it seems that this is some good stuff if it lives up to its claims. Worth checking out at least. Pretty fair priced also. Not sure how many grams of hemostatic agent is present in these, so I would offer the advice of getting at least two 4x4 sized packages for your IFAK.

what's the shelf life on this kind of stuff.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure. I'm hopeful to buy some soon and check it out. You can get it also in a 2x2 size from this vendor so it will be cheaper to find out. Typically though, the shelf life of hemostatic products remain high as long as the package remains intact and you can store it in a cool, dry place. That pretty much goes with any medical item that has a shelf life. Also, and many people don't know this, but like on medications that we carry on our ambulances, when they are pulled off at the expiration date listed, these medications are still GOOD for around 2-3 YEARS yet if taken care of properly. It is not uncommon for expired medications from the United States to be sent to 3rd world countries for use by medical personnel because of this little known fact. Also, I just found out that the U.S. Military and the FDA are in cahoots together to keep this from the public also. Isn't our government wonderful that they would want to save us from the demise of saving money for the American consumer?

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't get all twisted up about expiration dates. Basically those are put there by the manufacturer for you guessed it! MONEY MAKING PURPOSES! Just make sure that you store your stuff properly and you should have no problem. I would advise though, that when you do approach 2 years on something past the expiration date, that you do consider replacing it if you have the capability to do so. We may not have that luxury in the future though so take that for what it's worth.
